New blog for a new job!
Welcome to my new blog!!
I had some troubles with the old one...the name had changed so many times I figure its better to start fresh, so new job= new blog!
So recap: went to Australia, became dive instructor, found boyfriend (Mike). Visa ended, moved to Thailand. Worked in Thailand for nearly a year then finally went home for a bit. Found job in Mexico in a teeny town four hours south of Cancun called Mahahual. Cute little beach town, nice diving, but not much social interaction for Mike and I. Since we worked with cruise ships most of the time, our customers were only in town for a couple hours. We worked for a relatively small shop with 6 of us at the beginning of the season, but as the season continued, people began leaving for various reasons until it was just me and Mike and our manager. It wasn't quite the overly social and active life that we had grown accustomed to in Oz and Thailand. After the high season was over, six months after we moved down there, we headed back to Florida to regroup.
Fast forward six weeks and I found myself a job on Grand Cayman. Mike and I had been planning on going there and just looking for work in person, but this job popped up and it seemed like a perfect fit! I started the application process for my work visa but we found out that you can't get a work visa while on island. It had to be done ahead of time, or you would have to leave the country while the visa gets processed. So if Mike came out to the island with me, he'd have to leave again once he found a job! Mike started furiously looking and a week before I'm due to move, he gets a job! So now were both Cayman bound.
I've actually just arrived on the island. Mike will be joining me in a week or two when his visa paperwork comes through. It was a direct flight from Tampa, which was awesome, but at the same time I feel a off-balance since I got here so quickly! Before I would have multiple long flights or a long bus ride to adjust to the change. This time I barely got comfy on the plane before it landed!! But I'm here in one piece! Staying in a dive hostel with some people who have either newly arrived or are here for a short time doing divemaster or instructor training. So far so good!! I've found my dive shop and the grocery store...a big difference from Thailand and Mexico, there is a big grocery store!!! And its only a mile or so down the road!! In Mexico, it was a two hour bus ride to the big grocery store and our island in Thailand just didn't have them!
So I start my new job on Monday and hopefully Mike will be joining me in a couple weeks! I'm feeling optimistic that this will be a good fit for us. I'm going to try and update more than I have in the past, but I will be starting a new job and looking for a place to live this week, so bear with me ;)
Love and fishes!!
