New Years Reolutions
Welcome back to my blog! I've decided to start this up again, so read on and I'll catch you up on my life and my inspiration for getting back to blogging.
...
Working in the dive industry is weird. Vacation time is on a completely different schedule. While much of the world is enjoying time off with family around the holidays, we are working our tails off during our busiest time of the year. From mid-December, I had Christmas Day and New Year's Day off, but otherwise I was working 7 days a week from 6:45am until 3:30 or 4pm without much downtime. During this time, our boats are full and our dives are many. I am hugely grateful, however, that in the midst of the chaos, I did get Christmas Day off and, after 6 years, actually got to spend the day with my family!! Mom and Dad came down for the 22-28 and I can't even explain how magical it was waking up on Christmas morning to not only a day off, but a day off with family. And mom bought us matching pajamas so it was extra cute. We had the best day and I was so happy to have them here and I'm grateful they put up with my crazy schedule.
Now as we arrive in mid January I'm finally feeling that holiday break. While the rest of the world is going back to work, we are finally slowing down a bit. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the busy season and added income it provides, but man is it nice to have some more free time. It will pick back up soon, but for now I'm enjoying it.
I didn't think much about New Years resolutions around New Years,, mostly because I was tired!! Yeah yeah, I'll eat healthy and go to yoga more. But it hasn't been until this week that it's started to sink in and feel possible to keep resolutions. So for resolution keeping purposes, 2018 will start on the 15th this year. One resolution, to blog again! It's a great way to keep far away friends and family up to date with our lives, gives me a bit of a writing outlet and keeps a journal of cool things that we've done. I began keeping a blog when I started traveling to exotic places as a way to help my friends and family follow my journeys and keep in touch. When I got settled in Grand Cayman, I didn't see myself as traveling anymore so my "travel blog" faded away. I realized lately that I still have things I want to share and I still have interesting experiences, even if I'm not traveling the world as much. Lets call it a lifestyle blog!
So, how about a quick catch up on my lifestyle?
Mike and I loved to Grand Cayman nearly 2.5 years ago! I can't believe how fast it's gone! We're both working for dive companies on island. I work for Deep Blue Divers and Mike works for Don Foster's. We're both dive instructors and boat captains. I really love my job and have a great boss and coworkers. We run dive trips every day for certified divers and we do dive training as well. Mike and I moved to a bigger apartment in September and have been making use of our screened-in porch now that the weather is starting to cool off (Don't hate me it's 72 degrees). Life is good in Cayman!!
I'm going to try and start posting twice a month. Maybe sometimes it'll just be a couple lines or a photo of a sunset or complaints about our $5 avocados, but I will be posting something every couple weeks, so stay tuned!!
Love and fishes,
Amanda
